Keeping the hair style you love often requires the use of a lot of heat and sometimes a collection of chemical products. After a while, the wear and tear of regular cleaning and styling begins to take a toll on hair. We’ve all experienced the dry, frizzy split ends. But the good news is that a weekly hair mask can help to alleviate the damage and restore your hair to the youthful and lustrous locks you once had. They can also help to tame unruly and naturally dry hair. You have all the ingredients you’ll need right in your kitchen.
One of the best things for your hair is vitamin E and nothing has more of that than your average avocado. Mash it into a paste and add one tablespoon of olive oil and one tablespoon of coconut oil. Mash in an egg, and a little dash of honey. Blend until you have reached a nice smooth consistency. Apply it to your hair and leave it on for about 20 minutes. Then rinse and style. The great thing about this mask is that it contains the vitamin E from the avocado, the healthy oils, and the protein from the egg.
Yogurt is a super food. It has antioxidants, calcium, and protein. It is a great moisturizer that also has the added benefit of ridding the scalp of excess oil. For your mask you will need ½ cup yogurt (or more, depending on the length), and a teaspoon each of apple cider vinegar and honey. Honey is a fabulous moisturizer and cider vinegar cleans and degreases the scalp. Mix all the ingredients and apply to roots and hair, leaving on for 15 minutes. Rinse, and if you dislike the yogurt odor, shampoo with a fruit shampoo. This mask is great for eliminating an oily scalp, and taking care of dandruff.
Bananas are a wonderful fruit for the hair. They have great moisturizing properties, are loaded with vitamins, potassium, and antioxidants. They also are a hair strengthener, which means less breakage and split ends. They help repair damaged hair and leave hair lustrous. For this mask take 2 overripe bananas and a tablespoon each of coconut and olive oils and a tablespoon of honey. First blend the bananas to a fine paste, and then add the other ingredients and blend again. Apply to hair and scalp and let set for at least 5 minutes. Then rinse well and style. You might even get away without shampooing.
This recipe is great if you have a few over-ripe strawberries sitting in your refrigerator. For great shine and decreased oil, use about 7 strawberries and add a tablespoon each of coconut oil and honey. Make a puree of the ingredients. Apply to hair and scalp and leave in for at least 5 minutes. Rinse well with warm water.
Remember that the longer you leave a mask in your hair, the softer it will be, so take the time to apply these masks properly and let them sink in. And while you wait for them to do their jobs, take the time to relax and hydrate. Hydration is key for healthy hair and skin.
